Creationist Gone Wild

The Abuse by John FreshwaterA peek above our garters to Richard B. Hoppe, of Talk Rational, over at The Panda’s Thumb for this.

Seems some psycho fundy named John Freshwater was “teaching” some interesting things in his public school classroom in Mt. Vernon, OH.  Today, the school board voted unanimously to kick his sorry ass to the curb.  See that picture?  That’s not teaching.  That’s abuse.  (At least one family has filed a federal lawsuit against Freshwater and the district.)

The Board’s resolution cited four basic grounds for its resolution [to terminate Freshwater]:

1. Freshwater burned crosses in students’ arms using a high voltage, high frequency leak detection device, ignoring the manufacturer’s safety instructions associated with the device.

2. Freshwater taught material on thermodynamics, the Big Bang, the age of the earth, and the periodic table that is not in the approved curriculum or American Content Standards. Mr. Freshwater also taught ID and creationism in contravention of the curriculum and the First Amendment to the Constitution. He did so in direct contradiction of school board policy and administrative instructions. The resolution noted that Freshwater’s 2003 request to teach those materials had been denied by the board, so subsequently teaching them was insubordination.

3. In monitoring the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Freshwater exceeded his monitoring role by conducting prayers, recommending speakers, and generally taking a directive role rather than a monitoring role.

4. Mr. Freshwater did not remove all religious materials from his classroom as instructed by school administrators and in fact brought additional materials in to “make a point.”

Tears for an Anonymous Teenager

Deliquiscence (Pride with eau de Parfume), by *TreMichLan* @ FlickrA forlorn peek above our garters to Miss Vicki at God is a Dyke for bringing us this bit of heartbreaking news.

(Original source seems to be the Reading Eagle, via 365gay.)

Apparently, Joyce Y. Beddell, 61, walked in on her sixteen year old granddaughter in flagrante delicto with another girl from the neighborhood. Instead of politely excusing herself, Mrs. Beddell chose a different, heartbreaking path.

The granddaughter had just finished having sex with another 16-year-old girl and was in an upstairs bedroom. Beddell walked in and found them together.

Wish We All Could Be California Girls!

Surfer Girl, by casch52 @ FlickerA peeak above our garters to the California Supreme Court, and one to CNN for sharing this with us!

WASHINGTON (CNN) — In a much-anticipated ruling issued Thursday, the California Supreme Court struck down the state’s ban on same-sex marriage as unconstitutional.

Several gay and lesbian couples, along with the city of San Francisco and gay rights groups, sued to overturn state laws allowing only marriages between a man and a woman.

“There can be no doubt that extending the designation of marriage to same-sex couples, rather than denying it to all couples, is the equal protection remedy that is most consistent with our state’s general legislative policy and preference,” said the 120-page ruling.

It said that the state law’s language “limiting the designation of marriage to a ‘union between a man and a woman’ is unconstitutional, and that the remaining statutory language must be understood as making the designation of marriage available to both opposite-sex and same-sex couples.”

With the ruling, California becomes the second state to allow same-sex couples to legally wed. Massachusetts adopted the practice in 2004, and couples don’t need to be state residents to wed there.

Let’s go surfing now!

Deborah Jeane Palfrey Victim of Faith-Based Sex Legislation

CNN is reporting the apparent death of Deborah Jeane Palfrey, the so-called “D.C. Madam”. She apparently committed suicide at her mother’s home, having been convicted of numerous ‘crimes’ relating to her high-end prostitution business.

How sad that in the twenty-first century in America, people are still dying over laws based on repression by religion.

Ronda Storms, Dishonest Shill

Ronda Storms at WikipediaBefore I get to her latest bit of bullshit, a little background on this theocratic nitwit.

From Wikipedia:

Ronda R. Storms (born Ronda Rehnell Newcomb on September 5, 1965) is a Republican Party member of the Senate of the U.S. state of Florida, representing the 10th District since 2006.

Storms had an eight-year tenure on the Hillsborough County Commission (1998-2006), for which she is well known, and pushed a number of controversial issues. These issues included a fight against establishing the proposed Florida A&M University School of Law in Tampa, a campaign in favor of the sterilization of men and women convicted of child abuse, eliminating county-appropriated money for Planned Parenthood, and perhaps most publicized, her crusade for the county to officially abstain from recognizing gay and lesbian events held inside county lines, which was passed in June 2005 despite vocal opposition, most notably from openly gay topless dance club proprietor Joe Redner. She is also recognized by her quick tongue and often scathing sarcastic remarks, many of which she does not retract, stating “I am not apologizing for who I am.”

Well, given who you are, you probably should spend the rest of your life apologizing.

I suppose it shouldn’t surprise anyone that she’s currently shilling for the Discovery Institute, the Christian Supremicist No-Think Tank from Seattle behind the Intelligent Design Creationism Hoax that currently spends its time pretending to a scientific institution yet does nothing more scientific than post long whiny press releases and conspire to get their fundamentalist Christian mythology taught as science in high school classrooms.

From the Miami Herald, we find that Senator Psycho is quite possibly as demented as she is dishonest.

It’s called the ”Academic Freedom” bill and it’s supposed to give teachers the freedom to teach the ”full range of scientific views” about evolution.

But should teachers have the freedom to teach the ”full range of scientific views” about sexual education?

Republican Sen. Ronda Storms said that Democratic proposal went too far and had it voted down on the Senate floor Thursday, saying the sex-ed measure not only didn’t belong on her evolution bill but that it could lead to “prematurely deflowering kindergartners and first- and second-graders.”

Seriously? People actually take this nutjob seriously? Apparently, there are enough flakes in Florida to elect her and others like her to the State Senate.

Kent Hovind, Pseudo-Scientific Douche-Bag

Blogging on Pseudo-Scientific Douche-BagsYou may have seen this little logo beginning to find its way around the Blogosphere. The full story of how it came about can be found here, but the short version is this:

Bloggers who were interested in science and scientific research would use a linked graphic for an aggregating service called “Blogging on Peer Reviewed Research”, or BPR3. The service would pull together blog posts that used the label into one place, where one could browse around and see what some of the best science bloggers were saying about new research on all sorts of topics.

In yet another disingenuous attempt to give the Intelligent Design Creationism Hoax some veneer of scientific credibility, Discovery Institute lapdog and mealy mouthed mouthpiece Casey Luskin stuck the logo on one of his bullshit propaganda pieces, breaking pretty much every rule of BPR3 in addition to his usual utter lack of integrity. When someone noticed and he was busted of course, Casey did the responsible thing. He lied his ass off.

Anyway, you can read the whole sordid affair at the links above if you really want to see the blatant dishonesty that is part and parcel of the whole (bowel) movement that is The Intelligent Design Creationism Hoax of Propaganda (IDCraHP).

In a moment of breathtaking brilliance, Mister DNA, creator of CBEBs, came up with the perfect answer for Liars Like Luskin. Blogging on Pseudo-Scientific Douche-Bags (or the light version, Blogging on Pseudo-Science). If you blog at all about Pseudo-Science of any stripe, I would encourage you to look into joining the chorus there. It’s spreading like wildfire, and even some of the biggest science bloggers and ScienceBloggers are using it already.

(As a note of historical pride, allow me to point out that one of my posts was the very first one to be successfully aggregated by the service automatically.)

Before the project goes any further, I want to be sure that Kent Hovind, creationist, liar, convicted felon, and Pseudo-Scientific Douche-Bag with a fake “Dr.” degree from a fake “University”, is immortalized in the archives at BPSDB.org.

Without further ado, I once again give you Chisbo4ever’s video of EddyGoombah’s masterpiece, Tribute to Kent Hovind. (Possibly one of the very funniest videos ever made EVAH!)

You’re still a FuckTard, aren’t you Kent?

The Eyes of Texas Are No Longer Upon Your Dildo

freyavibe, by lobstar28 @ FlickrA peek above our garters to kendallmck for bringing this to our attention.

Angela K. Brown of the AP (via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram) brings us this orgasmic news:

FORT WORTH, Texas — A federal appeals court has overturned a Texas statute outlawing sex toy sales, leaving Alabama as the state with the strictest ban on such devices.

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the Texas law making it illegal to sell or promote obscene devices, punishable by up to two years in jail, violated the Constitution’s 14th Amendment on the right to privacy.

Companies that own Dreamer’s and Le Rouge Boutique, which sell the devices in its Austin stores, and the retail distributor Adam & Eve, sued in Austin federal court in 2004 over the constitutionality of the law. They appealed after a federal judge dismissed the suit and said the constitution did not protect their right to publicly promote such devices.

In its decision Tuesday, the appeals court cited Lawrence and Garner v. Texas, the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2003 opinion that struck down bans on consensual sex between gay couples.

“Just as in Lawrence, the state here wants to use its laws to enforce a public moral code by restricting private intimate conduct,” the appeals judges wrote. “The case is not about public sex. It is not about controlling commerce in sex. It is about controlling what people do in the privacy of their own homes because the state is morally opposed to a certain type of consensual private intimate conduct. This is an insufficient justification after Lawrence.”

More at the Star-Telegram.

I whole-heartedly share and endorse kendallmck’s reation:

Let’s all go have an orgy.

Unfortunately, we won’t be able to have that orgy in Alabama or Mississippi. Sorry ladies, y’all will have to keep using your cell phones on vibrate… until they outlaw that function there, that is.
