Opening the box to show Pandora risked loosing everything that resided there. She wasn’t sure if she’d be able to close the box again, and she knew how dangerous that could be. She fought within herself over whether to open the box, but there was never really any question. She could not refuse her this. Not her. Not this. Pandora knew well what would happen, and had asked anyway.
And tearful, happy, grateful, sad, and horrified at Pandora’s sacrifice, Ash eventually raised the lid.
She was overwhelmed with the sharing of the contents and her head swam in the glory of it. It had been so long since she had been able to share her box with someone. So, so very long.
The contents of the box nearly escaped before she could close the lid again. She had almost dallied too long.
“Goodbye, Pandora,” she whispered against the lid. “I’ll miss you.”
“don’t miss me. you’re better off. i’ll curl up here, with Hope. i’m sure she’s been lonely.”
Ashley wept bitterly, and resealed the box. This time, for always.
