I Am Thong Panties

Eating Thongs, by Vedia @ Flickr

Max is always taking these quiz things. I thought I’d take this one.

You Are Thong Panties

Woman, you are one hell of a ride!
You’re a total wild child – and you live for crazy times.Men are attracted to you like flies to honey, even though they know they should stay away. You need a expert cowboy who can keep in tune with your free spirit!

Kent Hovind, Pseudo-Scientific Douche-Bag

Blogging on Pseudo-Scientific Douche-BagsYou may have seen this little logo beginning to find its way around the Blogosphere. The full story of how it came about can be found here, but the short version is this:

Bloggers who were interested in science and scientific research would use a linked graphic for an aggregating service called “Blogging on Peer Reviewed Research”, or BPR3. The service would pull together blog posts that used the label into one place, where one could browse around and see what some of the best science bloggers were saying about new research on all sorts of topics.

In yet another disingenuous attempt to give the Intelligent Design Creationism Hoax some veneer of scientific credibility, Discovery Institute lapdog and mealy mouthed mouthpiece Casey Luskin stuck the logo on one of his bullshit propaganda pieces, breaking pretty much every rule of BPR3 in addition to his usual utter lack of integrity. When someone noticed and he was busted of course, Casey did the responsible thing. He lied his ass off.

Anyway, you can read the whole sordid affair at the links above if you really want to see the blatant dishonesty that is part and parcel of the whole (bowel) movement that is The Intelligent Design Creationism Hoax of Propaganda (IDCraHP).

In a moment of breathtaking brilliance, Mister DNA, creator of CBEBs, came up with the perfect answer for Liars Like Luskin. Blogging on Pseudo-Scientific Douche-Bags (or the light version, Blogging on Pseudo-Science). If you blog at all about Pseudo-Science of any stripe, I would encourage you to look into joining the chorus there. It’s spreading like wildfire, and even some of the biggest science bloggers and ScienceBloggers are using it already.

(As a note of historical pride, allow me to point out that one of my posts was the very first one to be successfully aggregated by the service automatically.)

Before the project goes any further, I want to be sure that Kent Hovind, creationist, liar, convicted felon, and Pseudo-Scientific Douche-Bag with a fake “Dr.” degree from a fake “University”, is immortalized in the archives at BPSDB.org.

Without further ado, I once again give you Chisbo4ever’s video of EddyGoombah’s masterpiece, Tribute to Kent Hovind. (Possibly one of the very funniest videos ever made EVAH!)

You’re still a FuckTard, aren’t you Kent?

Sex in the Public Square Presents…

Please take a moment to read this. I’m crossposting an important announcement from Elizabeth at SitPS:

sex work forum banner

For one week, starting next Monday, on SexInThePublicSquare.org, we’ll be devoting a forum to that discussion of reducing harm to sex workers and ending human rights abuses involved in the movement of labor around the globe. This is not a debate on the legitimacy of sex work but rather an exploration of how to protect people’s human rights. We’ve invited some of the smartest sex worker advocates we know — representing a range of connections to the sex industry — to talk about the intersection of these complicated issues (and also to talk about how to make them easier to discuss!). Here’s how it’ll work:

On our forums page there will be a forum with the title “Sex Work, Trafficking, and Human Rights.” As participants post forum topics they’ll also appear here on the front page, and you’ll be able to go straight to the entire forum itself by clicking on the banner above (which will appear at the top of this column during the forum). The forum will be open, but comments strictly moderated for tone and for staying on topic. Debating the legitimacy of sex work as work is not on the agenda.

What is on the agenda? Items including but not limited to:

Defining our terms: Is the way that we define “porn” clear? “Prostitution”? “Sex work” in general? What happens when we say “porn” and mean all sexually explicit imagery made for the purpose of generating arousal and others hear “porn” as indicating just the “bad stuff” while reserving “erotica” for everything they find acceptable? When we say sex work is it clear what kinds of jobs we’re including?

Understanding our differences: How do inequalities of race, class and gender affect the sex worker rights movement? Are we effective in organizing across those differences?

Identifying common ground: What are the areas of agreement between the abolitionist/prohibitionist perspective and the human rights/harm reduction perspective? For example, we all agree that forced labor is wrong. We all agree that nonconsensual sex is wrong. Is it a helpful strategic move to by highlighting our areas of agreement and then demonstrating why a harm reduction/human rights perspective is better suited to addressing those shared concerns, or are we better served by distancing ourselves from the abolition/prohibition-oriented thinkers?

Evaluating research: What do we think of the actual research generated by prominent abolitionist/prohibitionist scholars like Melissa Farley, Gail Dines, and Robert Jensen? Can we comment on the methods they use to generate the data on which they base their analysis, and then can we comment on the logic of their conclusions based on the data they have?

Framing the issues: What are our biggest frustrations with the way that the human rights/harm reduction perspective is characterized by the abolitionist/prohibitionist folks? How can we effectively respond to or reframe this misrepresentations? What happens when “I oppose human trafficking” becomes a political shield that deflects focus away from issues of migration, labor and human rights?

Exploring broader economic questions: How does the demand for cheap labor undermine human rights-based solutions to exploitation in all industries, including the sex industry?

The Nearest Book Meme – This Time It’s Different

O RLY?Ok, the meme is the same as the last two times I did this, but Bob tagged me and this time my answer is kinda special. I don’t currently have any books near the computer, but I do have one in the computer.

1. Grab the nearest book (that is at least 123 pages long).
2. Open to p. 123.
3. Go down to the 5th sentence.
4. Type in the following 3 sentences.
5. Tag five people.

Now, you’re actually supposed to guess which book I’m quoting, but that wouldn’t be possible.

I’ll tell you why, below the fold.

The Eyes of Texas Are No Longer Upon Your Dildo

freyavibe, by lobstar28 @ FlickrA peek above our garters to kendallmck for bringing this to our attention.

Angela K. Brown of the AP (via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram) brings us this orgasmic news:

FORT WORTH, Texas — A federal appeals court has overturned a Texas statute outlawing sex toy sales, leaving Alabama as the state with the strictest ban on such devices.

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the Texas law making it illegal to sell or promote obscene devices, punishable by up to two years in jail, violated the Constitution’s 14th Amendment on the right to privacy.

Companies that own Dreamer’s and Le Rouge Boutique, which sell the devices in its Austin stores, and the retail distributor Adam & Eve, sued in Austin federal court in 2004 over the constitutionality of the law. They appealed after a federal judge dismissed the suit and said the constitution did not protect their right to publicly promote such devices.

In its decision Tuesday, the appeals court cited Lawrence and Garner v. Texas, the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2003 opinion that struck down bans on consensual sex between gay couples.

“Just as in Lawrence, the state here wants to use its laws to enforce a public moral code by restricting private intimate conduct,” the appeals judges wrote. “The case is not about public sex. It is not about controlling commerce in sex. It is about controlling what people do in the privacy of their own homes because the state is morally opposed to a certain type of consensual private intimate conduct. This is an insufficient justification after Lawrence.”

More at the Star-Telegram.

I whole-heartedly share and endorse kendallmck’s reation:

Let’s all go have an orgy.

Unfortunately, we won’t be able to have that orgy in Alabama or Mississippi. Sorry ladies, y’all will have to keep using your cell phones on vibrate… until they outlaw that function there, that is.

Kate and I will be spending it quietly, I think.

I’m in a mellow birthday mood, unlike last year.

Blogging on Pseudo-Scientific Douche-BagsFile this under Sunday Morning Funnies.

I occasionally surf the blogs of pseudo-scientific douche-bags when I’m bored and need a little humor. It’s cheaper than buying a newspaper, and often provides much more entertainment. Once I wade through the usual quotemines, ad hominem attacks, deliberate obfuscations, and outright lies, there’s usually some pretty funny stuff that naturally evolves from a creationist attempting to twist history, science, and reality in general.

This morning was such a morning so as I’m sipping my first cup o’ joe, I begin the trek. I want to make some headway on my novel today, so to make it quick I go right to the perennial golden-tard mine that is Young Cosmos. You might remember its proprietor, Salvador Cordova, Asshole of the Year.Sal takes his temperature rectally.

Slimy Sal does not disappoint.

This morning’s headline?

618 Synagogue’s of Satan honor Darwin on Evolution Sunday

Setting aside his egregious abuse of an innocent apostrophe, it’s quite the little piece of crap.

Right off the bat, we get this lovely little bit, below the fold:

Democratic Musings

Obama.jpg by Barack Obama @ FlickrA while back, I promised my thoughts on the Democrats. Former Senator John Edwards has since withdrawn from the race for the nomination, so although I think he had some very valuable contributions to the discussion and that those contributions have affected the discourse in no small way, for the purposes of this post I’ll consider my musings on his positions moot.

While former Senator Mike Gravel is still technically in the race and I do like some of what he has to say, it should be quite obvious that he is not in any way a serious contender for the party nomination, and thus I’ll have to file him in the moot point basket as well. Both names may however, re-emerge as discussion of running mates becomes more immediate.

For now, I’m going to address the positions of Senator Barack Obama and in another post, those of Senator Hillary Clinton. I’ll start with Senator Obama below the fold.
