Dream a Little Dream of Me.

Lori Chalupny Busts Her Cherry

0017 by Gulledge @ Flickr
Lori Chalupny just scored her first World Cup goal, less than one minute into the game against Nigeria. You can catch it on ESPN.

The U.S. is currently dead even with North Korea in our group. They need to win, and win more decisively than North Korea to advance to play England. Should we not do as well as North Korea (currently losing tied with Sweden on ESPN2), we advance to play Germany.

Just so y’know.

(P.S. ESPN is pissin’ me off. They keep putting up graphics that are covering large portions of the screen. I appreciate the info, but they need to keep it small. I want to watch the game, not the graphics!)

From whence came the art:

That photograph of Lori Chalupny (number 17, playing against Canada) is serendipitously titled 0017, by Jason Gulledge.

Damn, it is just pouring there now.

  2. JanieBelle says:

    Sweden just went up 2-1.

  3. JanieBelle says:

Well, it was kinda ugly, but the U.S. wrapped it up 1-0.

Sweden and N. Korea still playing.

  4. JanieBelle says:

Woo Hoo, Sweden puts N. Korea away.

    N. Korea will play Germany, and the U.S. will play England Saturday morning.

  5. I come back to your website after all of this time, and you try to spoil me on the Women’s world cup game!? I’ve recorded it and haven’t watched it yet so I didn’t read past the first sentence of this thread. Gah!

  6. Martyne says:

Don’t read this at all until you have seen the game bourgeois_Rage, don’t wish to do a spoiler on you, So it’s USA v England in the Quarters on Saturday morning. Well it’s a respectable 1pm for us but I guess kick-off is 8 am for you. When does DST stop? We have BST until the last weekend in October, which is decidedly crazy because the weather has turned decidedly Baltic in the last couple of days and some areas have had their first frosts this morning. Winter is definitely a commin’.

I totally agree about ESPN putting up their graphics full of stupid info so that it blocks the screen. It pisses me the hell off. What do you think of USA-England. I like the matchup.

  8. JanieBelle says:

    Hi abarclay!

I’m liking the prospects for the game as well. By all accounts, it should be a great match.

  9. JanieBelle says:

    Martyne,

Daylight Savings started 3 weeks earlier and will end 3 weeks later this year. I think it used to be the 3rd Sunday in October, so that would put it in the middle of November now.

It’s been turning cooler here too. There was a high in the low 80s today.

    Kisses

We tend to work in Centigrade these days although the media call it Celcious, which is a misnomer. I will have to do some math. We topped out at 14C which you multiply by 9 and divide by 5, that’s 25.2. Then add 32= 57.2F. You guys definitely had the warmer weather today.

  11. Finally watched the game last night. I have to agree that ESPN needs to cut back on the graphics. Take a cue from Fox Soccer Channel, all that is necessary is the score and time. Irritating.

  12. JanieBelle says:

    Terribly annoying.

    I can’t wait for tomorrow’s game! (It’s at like 8AM here.)

  13. Martyne says:

OK, so your girls won three nil. Didn’t get to see the match because I was working until the final whistle blew and I forgot to record it. Doh!

  14. JanieBelle says:

I actually didn’t get to see the game either, Martyne. I had other commitments, and had no way to record the trouncing.

I did watch the Brazil – Aussie match this morning though, and it was a great one.

  15. Martyne says:

It’s a double edged sword with us when it comes to England. Normally we love to see them beaten, but if it is a team outside our Continent, other rules seem to apply. You may see it as a “trouncing” dear, I merely see it as a bit of a sporting slip-up. And by girls with thighs to die for.

  16. JanieBelle says:

Speaking of trouncing, I’d really like to give our coach one.

What the hell was he thinking?

  17. Old Knudsen says:

What do you mean yer on a break? I’ve found that if I scroll doon past yer left hand sidebar I can read the posts as the sidebar overlaps the first 3 or 4 letters of everything, must be my browser or something, 20 major’s blog is the same. Anyway, I’m a bit out of date, the US got beat by Brazil huh? what a shame, thats what you get for beating England, that Hope Solo is a tasty bit, probably a leezer right? ah well still something to think about.
