Kudos To WordPress

As most of you know, I have an ongoing issue with WordPress’ staff. (You can find most of the dispute chronicled here, along with some other posts I’ve made involving censorship.) It involves their pulling certain blogs from their internal listings, and mine, Kate’s and The Boy’s are among them. (For the record, The Boy had nothing even mildly objectionable on his blog before he got yanked. It was just poetry and stuff about his family. He got censored for bitching about WP’s treatment of us. This blog and Kate’s were at most mildly suggestive before the censorship.)

The process is arbitrary, unfair, without notice, and without appeal. Some fundy doesn’t like what he finds on someone else’s blog, complains, the blog gets pulled.

However, I have always loved the software itself, and until I got silenced in the WordPress community I had nothing but praise for WordPress. In fact, WP’s superiority over Blogger was the whole reason I moved here, and I was extremely vocal about that both before and after the move.

To give credit where credit is due, one thing I and a bunch of other people disliked about the Sandbox theme was the lack of avatars in the comments, and you’ll note that the WP staff addressed that and added them a while back.

Just earlier today you may have noticed one other really big improvement for which I think WP deserves a big ol’ hug. They’ve added avatars to the recent comments box on the right side bar.

Kudos, WP. Good job. I love it already.

Now, about that censorship policy…

[UPDATE: Well it looks like there's a bug in the code. Suddenly new comments aren't showing up in the recent comments box. I'd tell them about it, but I'm pretty sure they're just deleting my email on sight because of the dispute. I can't really blame them, I was pretty unhinged as I tend to get when I'm pissed. I'm sure they'll fix it soon, just keep your thong out of a knot. In fact, take it off and enjoy the breeze if it helps. ]

[SECOND UPDATE: That issue seems to have been resolved, as I was sure it would be.]

Rev. Big Dumb Chimp Has A Theory

about our de-listing. He’s re-evaluating his move to WordPress, given the arbitrary and secret process by which a blog is de-listed here.

See that WordPress? All the hard work I put in to convincing Blogspot Bloggers to come here, and you’re pissing it away.

Way to shoot yourself in the foot, guys!

Anyway, as to the good Reverend’s theory, he suggests it was Fundy Psycho Troll Cocksnack, in revenge for getting his ass handed to him on several occasions by Kate and me.

Very plausible.

What about it WP guys? Why does one fundy whack job (even if it wasn’t Cocksnack) have more control over who sees my content than the WP community at large?

And we’d still like a little participation in the conversation at Sex In The Public Square. You haven’t answered any questions or responded to our ideas. What’s up with that?

Even Now, Blogger Thwarts Me

I’m going to scream. I ditched Blogger for precisely this reason. It’s down ALL THE DAMNED TIME!

Blogger Sucks!

So I’m working on fixing all the posts that I’ve imported from Blogger, fixing the self-referencing links, restoring the pictures because hotlinking from Blogger is sketchy at best (they’re my damned pictures, uploaded by me, sitting on my blog, and yet…), restoring the videos because WordPress uses a different format for YouTube, blah blah blah and all that jazz.

Blog Announcement

Because Blogger has forced the issue by blocking all us old blogspot bloggers from commenting on any of the new Beta blogs, we are going to be doing everything we can to get the WordPress importer to rescue us NOW.

Since the importer does not work on the new Beta blogs, we have to get it done before Blogger forcibly moves us to Beta.

Raspberries to Blogger on both counts.

What this means is that I will be stripping this blog down to its bare essentials attempting to figure out what the hell is holding up the importer. (Don’t worry, I’ve saved the template and will be able to restore it until Blogger forces us out.) I do not want to lose all the great history here.

Please excuse the ugly decor while this is going on.

Still No Love From The WordPress Importer

I’ve tried and tried, but can’t seem to figure out why it won’t import our Blogspot blog.

It’s a setting, or part of the code, or something. I’ll keep trying, but I’m getting pretty frustrated.

I don’t want to make the primary move to our WordPress blog until I can move all that good stuff over here.

To Whoever Gets To “Review” My Blog

Ok, so I was stripping the blog down to try to get WordPress to import my blog over there (BECAUSE BLOGGER IS DOWN ALL THE DAMNED TIME) and I republished several times trying to get it to work (BECAUSE EVERY TIME I TURN AROUND BLOGGER IS DOWN AGAIN) and apparently I tripped some sort of filter trying to catch spam blogs.
