Alright, I’ve know I’ve been on a BadAstronomy binge lately, but you have to check this out.
Tonight, the shuttle is undocking from the space station, and you may just be able to see them together in the sky.
Hurry, it’s going on RIGHT NOW and you don’t want to miss it!

Sorry, got in a hurry cause I didn’t want you to miss it. It’s a half hour from now on the east coast of NC when we’ll get the maximum altitude, right at 6PM EST.
The BA has the link and instructions to find out details for your location.
Alright, so we ran outside (got distracted and almost missed it), and grabbed the 10 X 50 binoculars on the way out.
I’m pretty sure we caught them, but every damned body in the neighborhood had their porch lights on, Christmas lights, all that jazz (we left ours off until after), and had street lights and pine trees in the way.
They were low in the sky, to the NW, and really zooming. To my naked eye, they just looked like a dot of light, but in the binoculars you could make out two, next to each other.
It was hard to see well with the lights, and we were standing in the middle of the street out front for the least unobstructed view, so we had nothing to lean on to steady the binoculars.
10 X 50 binoculars are a little jumpy, if you don’t steady them on something.
The neighbors were all staring at us like we were Purple Octopus Aliens from Mars or something.
Perhaps we should have put our clothes back on before we ran out.
Hey, I told you we were distracted.
